Dolly Trolley
First on the list for non toys is the dolly. This gets used so much in our house and in such creative ways. I find it fascinating to see what they come up with and so far we have had competitions to see who can travel further or spin the most, a boat which they fish from and travel from island to island, see how many friends can fit on it, to take all their toys back to their rooms at the end of the day (we live in a bungalow), in an obstacle course, avoiding the lava or like in the picture above to make unloading the dishwasher a bit more fun but also take forever. I also use it too as I don’t like to wait around for help to move anything. You can find one similar to ours here.
Backpacks
Maybe an obvious one but these are a must when they reach about four. I have them pack their own bags for trips out, so snacks and drinks can be divided between us all. Which means I don't have to lug a massive bag around for everyone and they have a bit more autonomy on when they want things instead of me constantly being asked for something to eat. They can pack a few items that they want to take and as they're carrying them they quickly learn that they don't want to overpack.
Magnet Fisher
These are great if you have any streams, ponds or lakes nearby. Just ensure they understand water safety and are careful they don't get carried away throwing it in and send themselves in as well.
We don't always have great luck but any rubbish they find can be a lesson for keeping our water clean and any treasures are very exciting! Keeps mine entertained for a long time. You can also just use them for fun at home in paddling pools or buckets. A bit like an epic hook the duck.
