If you’re heading off on holiday or looking for something to do on rainy days having a few card games that everyone can play is perfect.
Dobble (1)
The beauty of this game is anyone can play it and quite often the kids are better at it than the grown ups so you can really try your best. They also have so many different varieties including Harry Potter, Disney princesses and Marvel so they make great presents. We have this version but I'm sure they're all great!
Uno (2)
An absolute classic. I have played absolutely hours of this game. First it was when we went camping with friends and now we play it with our children. It's such an easy game to pick up, everyone loves smugly saying UNO when they're down to their last card and the kids love forcing their parents to pick up 6 cards. Yes I know UNO have officially said you can't lay a +2 on a +2 but it just wouldn't be the same game without it so we shall continue to do so! It says 7+ on the game but my daughter has been playing it since she was four. There are so many varieties of this game now but we still find ourselves always returning to the original, you can't beat perfection, which you can get here. There’s also this water resistant version which would be perfect for by the pool or on the beach.
Memory games (3)
Great for younger children my youngest still loves playing this game and she is great at it. You can start off with just four pairs to make it easier (if your brain is as fried as mine you will probably need this for yourself anyway) and move on to using all of them. This one I've linked looks lovely but again you could probably find this in anything that your kids are particularly into.
Avoid you know Who (4)
This is particularly for Harry Potter fans but really anyone can play it. It’s essentially the old maid card game but with Harry Potter characters and you have to avoid having Voldemort at the end. I think this is the game we probably play the most. It is so simple but so entertaining and we love watching the kids try to keep poker facers as they pick out Voldemort. You can buy it here.
Guess in 10 (5)
The great thing about this game is it's really one of those where they learn whilst having fun so they don't even realise. Some versions can be quite tricky so maybe for slightly older children but the animal and food ones are great. The junior version is for children that cannot read yet. Find them here.
Monopoly deal (6)
This is definitely for older children as there are a lot of rules involved and it does seem quite complicated at first. My son started playing it when he was seven. It makes for a more entertaining game for adults as there are tactics involved as well as a bit of luck.
Happy salmon (7)
This game is loud and involves moving around but is a lot of fun. You have to match your card with someone else's by shouting what you have on it and doing a certain action, the winner is whoever gets rid of all their cards first. My son (8 years old) is an absolute whizz at this and so absolutely loves it.
Red light green light 123 (8)
We haven't got this game but will probably be adding it to our collection in the summer looks simple enough and reviews are great.
Ouisi (9)
We bought this one for grandparents and it’s a lovely game to play with different generations. There are a few different ways to play it but you’re basically making connections with the cards either my shape, colour, material and then putting them together a bit like dominoes. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and it’s really interesting to see how different everyone’s minds work.
Card Holders
As an added extra if your children struggle to hold all their cards, especially if someone has been particularly mean in UNO, these card holders are brilliant.
